The two main rules to follow for natural weight loss, is eating right and getting regular exercise.

Sounds simple. Right? For a lot of us, it is a case of ‘easier said than done’.

Natural weight loss really isn’t too difficult. There are lots of little changes you can make to help in the process. Such as eating healthy snacks like fruit or whole grain crackers, instead of junk food like chips or donuts.

A good approach to losing weight naturally is to stick to a diet that includes lots of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products. Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, and eggs. Is low in saturated and trans fats.

One thing you should remember about low-fat products, is that “no fat” or “low-fat” foods doesn’t mean you can eat as much of it as you want. The fact of the matter is, most non-fat or low-fat products have just as many calories as the full fat versions. Read nutrition labels and you’ll see what I mean.

You need to do some exercise to help with your weight loss. Doing regular exercise is the ideal thing to do. But if you don’t like the thought of ‘working out’, there are other ways you can incorporate exercise into your day. Taking stairs instead of the elevator, parking as far from the door as you can, or house or yard work (gardening, raking, mowing the lawn with a push mower,mopping, vacuuming), are just a few.

Any activity is better than none. You should aim to include muscle-strengthening activities as well. You can be physically active every day for one extended period of time, or you can break it up into several shorter sessions.

It is not always easy to change your eating and activity habits. But keep working on your goal of natural weight loss and you’ll be on the road to a healthier lifestyle.

There are many ways to increase fat burn for weight loss, and eating chicken is just one of them. It is certainly fine to eat poultry to aid in helping in your quest to lose weight. Chicken is a lean protein and protein is extremely important in our weight loss efforts.

Eating chicken for weight loss is a smart choice. Although most people make the mistake of eating much too much of it. Large portions are not necessarily better. The size of your fist is what you should be aiming for as the amount of lean protein that your body requires.

Eating chicken for weight loss is something you should be doing a few times per week. Although chicken is not the only food you should be eating to burn fat. Here are 10 fat burn tricks you can use to further increase your diet efforts.

1. Make sure to eat a variety of foods. Add sources of lean protein, such as fish, tuna, turkey, or pork to your diet.

2. Be sure to eat fibrous foods, like vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, cauliflower.

3. Try to eat more beans for more protein and consider making home made hummus. Also eat black beans or kidney beans as well for good sources of protein.

4. Be sure to drink water and lots of it. Make sure it is slightly chilled to help up your metabolism.

5. Add some spices to your foods like chili powder, cinnamon, or red pepper flakes. These increase your inner metabolism greatly.

6. Add short intense bursts to your workouts. Run your tail off for two minutes, take a break, then go again. Add at least 10 sets of two minutes sprints.

7. Do not eat 4 hours before bed time. I know you have heard that it does not matter because it is how many calories you eat versus how many you expend. This is simply not true. Your body needs to digest your food before you put it rest.

8. Make sure you get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. This is also of vital importance to losing weight. Remember eating chicken for weight loss works, but it does not equal the importance of sleep for weight loss. You will see results if you give your body the recovery time it desperately requires.

9. Add a green drink to your daily diet. Go to a local health food store and find a decent tasting green drink. These drinks are essential in giving your body the enzymes it requires. We cannot possibly eat the amount of vegetables per day that our body needs.

10. Try to be happy and upbeat as much as possible. When we are feeling down or depressed our bodies will protect itself by reserving all the fat for our brains to function properly. So put on some great music or call a friend.

Weight Loss Surgery: Successful Patients Embrace Four Stages of Growth

Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) is often viewed as a quick fix for morbid obesity. One day a person is fat, the next they are not. While it may appear to onlookers that a gastric bypass patient is losing the weight without personal struggle or effort, this really isn’t true. WLS patients must follow four rules for success and they experience four phases of growth following surgery.

The four rules for successful weight loss and long-term weight maintenance are: Eat protein first; No snacking, Drink lots of water and Exercise daily. Adherence to these rules moves the patient smoothly through the four stages of bariatric growth which I define as: Conception, Infancy, Adolescence and Maturity.

Conception begins when patients consider surgery as a treatment for morbid obesity. It could be prompted by a life threatening illness such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or high blood cholesterol, asthma, heartburn or sleep apnea. Or perhaps lifestyle prompts it – a person may lack the energy to play with their children or pursue the activities they love. Maybe self-esteem is so low because of obesity that a drastic measure – surgery – is needed to restore a sense of self-worth.

Conception is followed by birth, an event left entirely to a carefully selected surgeon and staff of healthcare professionals. The surgeon partitions off most of the stomach creating a pocket or pouch that will hold one ounce of food. In most gastric bypass surgeries the digestive system is re-routed to bypass the intestine and shortcut to the bowel. This prevents too many calories from being absorbed and stored by the body in the form of fat. The patient wakes from the surgery a bariatric infant.

Infancy On the second day of my WLS infancy my surgeon stood at my hospital bedside and showed me a cup, the size in which sacramental communion is offered and he said “This is the size of your stomach now.”

Just like bringing a newborn home from the hospital the bariatric patient brings home a tiny newborn tummy that has all kinds of requirements and restrictions. This new tiny tummy is completely foreign to the behaviors and habits that caused obesity. There is not one single thing an obese person has done in the past that they can continue doing. Patients who strictly follow the four rules quickly become acquainted with their new tiny tummy. This is the time of rapid weight loss. For the first time most morbidly obese patients are consistently losing lots of weight, something they have never experienced before. Infancy for most bariatric patients lasts from nine to 18 months.

Similar to parents of a firstborn child who focus completely on their new baby, during bariatric infancy patients completely focus on their new tiny tummy. Then one day, without fanfare, they wake up and rediscover themselves. They enter adolescence.

Adolescence Adolescence is the stage when patients test the system. Many patients don’t dump, vomit, snack or eat the forbidden foods until they reach adolescence. But once they approach or reach target weight a mental bad boy shows up in a shiny black corvette saying take a ride on the wild side. So a patient jumps in the bad boy’s fast ride and speeds down a dangerous road. They break the rules! Perhaps they eat sugar which results in a blood sugar imbalance called “dumping” or they may stuff themselves with starchy carbs causing vomiting. In the worst case, a patient returns to snacking, a little treat of hard candy here and a handful of popcorn there. Mark my words, nothing stops-short weight loss or maintenance more quickly than a little bit of rule breaking. But like any teenager, we all have to learn it on our own.

The good news: the duration of adolescence is up to the patient! A patient only hurts themselves when they break the rules. Successful WLS patients commit to themselves early to be in control of their own gastric bypass growth cycle. However, some WLS patients get stuck in adolescence. I’ve heard many say, “Oh, I can eat anything I want, just not much of it.” Don’t believe it for a minute. They aren’t saying how often they vomit, or dump or how they never quite achieved their weight loss goal. Weight loss patients who eat anything they want are abusing their tool and stuck in perpetual adolescence.

Maturity At maturity a patient understands the gastric bypass system and is living the life they dreamed. They have achieved desired weight loss and are maintaining a healthy weight. A diligent patient can enjoy this phase for the rest of their life.

I believe WLS maturity is reached when patients understand one word: respect. Respect for the tiny tummy, respect for the science of the body, and respect for oneself. Sure, we all experience an occasional lapse of judgment; that old lover of ours – food – is flaunting temptations every single day. But the gastric bypass patient is a brave and powerful person.

Successful patients build on infant and teenage experiences and become an adult embracing all the good things gastric bypass has facilitated. The battle against obesity isn’t easy; patients will fight old habits for the rest of their life. Gastric bypass is a tool, a weapon in the battle against obesity, but it is the patient who wins the war.

Spinning for Weight Loss: Why I Don’t Approve of It

Had an email yesterday from a reader asking what I thought about spinning.

Well, the truth is, I’m not a big fan of the spinning scene.

I know there are better ways to lose fat and spend your workout time.

First of all, spinning classes are not efficient. I know that you can get more work done in less time if you do intervals on your own. And so, because it is not efficient, it could also be a lot more effective.

Second, the high RPM “spinning” is pointless. That’s not doing anything for fat loss. And I’ve talked to more than one woman that complained about her hips being sore after spinning at 150 RPM in a class.

Why is the high RPM spinning ineffective? Because the amount of mechanical work performed is lower than when you have higher tension and pedal at a slower rate (i.e. 80 RPM). So cut the high RPM spinning out, and just do the high tension intervals. You’ll save time and get the same or better results.

The high-tension, low/moderate RPM intervals are the only part of the spinning class worth doing.

More tension = more turbulence = more fat loss results.

It’s a very simple equation.

But again, you can do those high-tension intervals on your own in less than half the time of a regular spinning class.

Regular spinning class = about 45 minutes

Advanced structured intervals workout = About 20 minutes

Time saved = 25 minutes – Which is more than enough time to get some strength training supersets in to build muscle and really crank up your metabolism. Now that’s a better, more well rounded workout that will help you make bigger improvements to your body.

A combination of strength and interval training is the clear winner- accomplishing more (muscle building and fat loss) than any type of spinning class, aerobics class, or circuit training workout.

Now if some people need the whole class environment as a motivation to workout, fine. Or if that’s one of your fun workouts per week, then go for it. You can keep going to spinning if you like it.

But if you think that spinning classes are the most efficient answer to your fat loss goals, forget about it.

When you need to get fat loss results in less time, the combination strength and intervals are more efficeint and effective.

Workouts specifically structured for fat loss, such as the strength and interval workouts, are far more effective than random spinning sessions.

Design the best fat loss program for you and your time limits.

Weight Loss Camp for Adults – How Is It Different Than for Kids?

Adults have different emotional drivers than children.

However, the motivational techniques used for adults may differ because adults have different emotional drivers than children. In general, teaching kids new habits is a much faster process than for adults. After all, adults have had more time to develop bad habits and have them firmly established. The key is finding the right motivational driver or emotional hot button that a person is geared to strive toward. Let’s start by defining the differences in a key factor known to motivate both kids and adults-peer approval.

Understanding human nature is the key to being able to persuade, influence, motivate, and coach others. The difference in the mature person and the immature is simply the ability to hold out for delayed gratification versus immediate gratification… and sex appeal. Weight Loss Skin Care – Beauty Tips For Dieters

Acne can be more challenging. Just when you’re starting to lose weight and are looking great and feeling good, you start to get acne.

1. Stretch Marks and Other Skin Care Concerns

As you continue to lose weight, you may find that your skin is more oily, or even more dry. Make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water. The water is essential because as your body burns fat, it releases toxins, which are stored in the fat, into your system. Water will flush your system, and you’ll feel better.

If you have acne, use an oatmeal and milk rinse on your face daily. To make the rinse, take a teaspoon of oatmeal, and soak it in a cup of milk overnight. If your skin feels rough, you can use an olive oil and salt mixture as an exfoliant. Mix a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of salt, then rub this into your skin. You can use the mixture as an all-over exfoliant.
